HURTS reMixed

Hurts

Only a matter of days now until the release of HURTS first ‘proper’ single. ‘Better Than Love’ is already getting some good airplay here in the UK (Radio1 have finally playlisted it!) so it looks promising that the single could do well.

To stave off the anticipation check out LightsOverLA’s take on the track, keeping most of the song intact they inject a little more dancefloor appeal with a heavier beat and mid-song breakdown.

La Roux reMixes

Is it time for a new La Roux album yet? Or are Elly and Ben still gallivanting ‘round the world promoting the last one?

Oh well, it’s gonna’ be while before they’re back in the studio I expect so the occasional trawl of the internet for unheard reMixes may sometimes be in order, sometimes you can find some real gems like these two!

No Roux No, out of nowhere, has dropped what may be one of my favourite reMixes of ‘Bulletproof’, like a stripped down Nu-Disco track the whole song revolves around the ever evolving lead line, it’s well worth a listen. Mr. TinoForever, however, drops a dubstep reMix of ‘In For The Kill’ to rival Skream’s, with some heavy, heavy synths.

Interestingly, La Roux were on BB2’s documentary about Heaven 17 last night and Elly was joined by Ben for the interview, does this mean he’s stepping out of the shadows? (he probably just has a lot to say about Heaven 17, but who wouldn’t?).

Fotonovela reMix Groove Armada

Fotonovela stopped by the electronic rumors inbox to drop off their latest reMix, of Groove Armada’s recent single featuring the vocals of Ben from Fenech-Soler and SaintSaviour, ‘Paper Romance’.

Fotonovela are a Greek duo who hail from the Undo stable alongside Marsheaux, and as with their label-mates they are masters of ElectroPop.

The reMix a pretty awesome retro synth workout. It’s a good song anyway but the pair add a cool arpeggiated late-80’s SynthPop vibe to it. The more I listen to it the more I’m digging it, the chords in the chorus and the sparkling lead lines remind me so much of the Pop I grew up with without sounding dated at all. I’ll defiantly be keeping my eye on Fotonovela.

Stay Ali

When you hear the music of Swedish teenage trio Stay Ali and then see photos of them you immediately think “these kids made this????”.

Creating intricate electronic music with a definite Nu-Disco slant and an obvious maturity well beyond their years, Bård Ericson, Elias Smeds, and Johan Vati Grade just go to show you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. They are about to release their EP, ‘Vat:Auhla’ on Monsieur Adi’s Technofavrik label and if this track, ‘97’, is anything to go by it will be a storming release. Both the production and arrangement in the tune is something pretty special and show a real progression from earlier tracks of theirs (remember ‘Emotional Day’ & ‘Auhlau’?), the highs and lows of the song are perfectly laid out and the finale synth solo is genius!

Rox

Rox is a 22 year old half Jamaican, half Iranian singer/songwriter currently signed to Rough Trade and making waves on the live music scene.

Her forthcoming single ‘I Don’t Believe’ has had reMix treatments from the Electro-House and Dubstep ends of the electronic music spectrum by Don Diablo and Landlord respectively. Diablo’s take on the track builds, on top of the Roots elements, a 2-step Electro track that will have you groovin’ wherever you hear it while Landlord expertly crafts a deep, dark bass monster.

I gotta’ say, the Don Diablo mix is one of my favourite tracks of the week!

Robyn reMixes

Scandinavian ElectroPop whirlwind Robyn’s forthcoming single ‘Dancing On My Own’, for her new album ‘Body Talk Pt. 1’ is shaping up to have an awesome reMix package supporting it.

Things in the Rex The Dog camp have been pretty quiet recently but he’s powering back with this amazing reMix, the trademark Rex The Dog style bassline really kicks the track up a notch, it’s really Poppy for RtD but may have place Roby (like last year) in our top 20 of 2010 already! Chew-Fu don’t do a bad job themselves, turning in a euphoric, hands-in-the-air slice of Electro-House with a really 80’s movie feel.

Kicking off with an introductory build leaves you aching for the beat to kick in, you’re not disappointed when it does. It’s a mid-tempo, pretty psychedelic, Electro jam that let’s chainsaw synths sweep around over a hypnotic base riff.

Boy 8-Bit reMixed by The Loose Cannons

Boy 8-Bit deep Electro cut from the ‘Baltic Pine’ EP, ‘Wolfen’, has been giving a complete rework by The Loose Cannons and I’m finding it hard not to call it ‘funny’.

‘Cos it is, it’s a funny track. The Loose Cannons obviously has a lot of fun with this when reMixing it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty full-on dancefloor banger built on hard beats and chainsaw synths that will go down a treat in any Electro set, but it was made with a sense of humour, which is lacking from many Electro tracks.

It seems like it’s been a while since we heard from Valerie House-meister Edwin Van Cleef, but he has cropped up reMixing Funkstar De Luxe’s latest single ‘Do You Feel?’.

Van Cleef’s reMix is smooth, radio friendly, Electro Disco jam, keeping the vocals of the original intact and injecting some of that retro inspired synth groove we would expect from the man.

LUFRKKK

What the fuck is this now? I haven’t got much to say about Brazilian LUFRKKK, as I don’t know much. I recognize the name for some reMixes but the email I received was pretty cryptic.

As is the track, it’s an awesome melting pot of genres. Give it a listen, once you get used to it, rapping over Dreamwave style Nu-Disco is actually pretty cool. Hearing the big 80’s synths with an MC and some AutoTuned vocals takes some getting used to, but you end up thinking “if this is the direction Hip-Hop is going in, I can dig” especially when there are vocoders to ease you in. And then…once you are comfortable, once you have got used to the Hip-Hop/Dreamwave/Pop R&B/Nu-Disco/Electro-House mash-up…it gets all Drum & Bass on your ass!

Take that genres!
