[Video] Chvrches’ ‘Recover’

The UK’s ElectroPop saviours Chvrches’ new single, Recover, also sees their first proper music video, and what a music video it is.

A Sci-Fi epic, fitting for a SynthPop song, particularly one so majestic, the clip has hints of 2001, BladeRunner, and a lot of mysterious cubes. Amazing stuff.

Chvrches’ Recover is out now.

St. Lucia

Now, this is a bit of a treat. Two of the finest ElectroPop acts around  in a reMix sound-off.  Brooklyn SynthPop master Jean-Philip Grobler A.K.A. St. Lucia’s Before the Dive gets a beautiful, swirling abstract electro makeover by Glaswegian ElectroPop buzz factory Chvrches. That’s a meeting of minds we weren’t expecting, but we wonder where it’s been all out lives.

The result is a lush, experimental Pop tune (that’s experimental in a musical way, not experimental bashing some sheet metal and fiddling with the LFO way). Adding some of their own heavily effected vocals, Chvrches lay down a hypnotic piano hook, pounding industrial drums and layers upon layers of rich synths. This is serious genius at work!

Chvrches

We’ve not heard the Curxes reMix of Glaswegian ElectroPop future stars Chvrches’ awesome Recover yet, but the mere idea of it has us drooling with anticipation. In the meantime one of the other reMixes off the single, coming from Austrian producer Cid Rim is definitely keeping us satisfies.

Beautifully complex and playful, Cid Rim’s reMix almost revels in the synthesizers it used. Full of 16-bit crunches and lush filtered warbling. It’s a really deeply layered track that draws you in a bit more with every listen. With a nod to deeper Bass genres alongside a reverby Chillwave undertones and a wonderful cacophony of sounds, Cid Rim has suddenly jumped onto our radar and we’ll be keeping an eye on him from now on.

Chvrches

Every new release from Chvrches makes us a little nervous. there is so much hype surrounding this Glaswegian ElectroPop trio that we get concerned they won’t be able to live up to expectations. For now, at least, dipping into their third single, Recover, puts to rest any fears and they deliver another stunning slice of moody ElectroPop.

Awash with Numandoid synths, Recover does that thing all the best 80s SynthPop tunes do. Balancing a big, seemingly upbeat, optimistic tune with a melancholy running through it like a tear. Singer Lauren’s frail yet impassioned performance is almost heartbreaking and needs, to a certain extent, to be countered with all the shimmering synth work. We think we if heard the acapella we might cry. This prefect blend of optimism and pain is evident in, literally, every classic SynthPop act there is and Chvrches are on a fast track to joining some of them, we just hope all the hype doesn’t ruin it all.

[Audio] Chvrches reMix ultraísta

ultraísta

The ElectroPop name on everyone’s lips right now, Glasgow three piece Chvrches (yes, we’ve all given in to the ‘v’ now…) have produced their first reMix. Time to see if their amazing production can hold up when dealing with other peoples songs as they take on ultraísta’s Gold Dayzz (for the fain of heart amongst our readership, I’ll save you the tension and let you know that yes, yes it does hold up).

ultraísta are a three piece with some kind of production like to Radiohead, I’ll be honest, we hadn’t heard of them, although further investigation revealed some quite nice indeed Downtempo and Electronica. enter Chvrches, though, to spice things up a little and open the track up to some of their rich, emotive electronics and they inject the tune with a roaring synth bass, snappy beats and melodies sharp as a knife. The hazy vocals of the original drift in and out of pulsating arpeggios as the whole song build and build to a truly euphoric finale. So…Chvrches can reMix too then…good to know.

Chvrches reMixed by Miaoux Miaoux

Chvrches

The recent reMix of amazing Glaswegian ElectroPop letter wranglers Chvrches’ forthcoming new single The Mother We Share by JD Twitch of Optimo fame was, frankly, tired. A massive disappointment of dated sounds and uninspired programming. So we’re calling this new mix from fellow Glasgow resident Miaoux Miaoux ‘the first reMix’ as it is, at least, the first reMix to do the track justice.

Miaoux Miaoux takes a breezy, retro, almost SynthWave approach to the track. Slightly rawer sounding than your usual SynthWave sounds, the track still sounds like it would be the prefect soundtrack for a big emotional moment in a John Hughes movie. Lauren Mayberry’s vocals sounding particularly 80s (more than usual) in Miaoux Miaoux’s hands. This is the prefect accompaniment to intelligent ElectroPop of the original for those dancefloors that lean a little more toward the vintage sound. this is the first track we’ve heard from Miaoux Miaoux, but it has left us very interested to hear more.

Chvrches’ new single

Chvrches

OK,  Chvrches, what’s the deal with the ‘v’. You never used to have it, your SoundCloud username used to be ‘churchestheband’.  I really think we all need a say in this. I mean, if I’m going to be writing about you more, and I imagine I will be, I need to know if I have to use the ‘v’. Is that just a stylised thing, or is that actually how you are spelling Churches now? It’s like CHEW LiPS all over again.

Chvrches new single, their second song after the stunning Lies, is The Mother We Share, and while Lies seems to bubble up slowly through the internet, the announcement of this new track seemed to break the blogosphere for a time. This is a good thing. If an bands around right now deserves some blogosphere breaking attention it’s Chvrches. The Mother We Share is a nice mixture of bright, but brooding electronics tempered by Lauren Mayberry’s sweet vocal. A tad more euphoric than the industrial stomp of Lies, showing a different facet to Chvrches. There is no doubt in our minds, Chvrches are going to be huge.

I’ll tell you what, Chvrches, lets make a deal. You get to keep the ‘v’ if you promise never to use a △? Sound good?
