Charli XCX’s ‘You’re The One’

charli XCX

London avant-garde ElectroPop chick Charli XCX drops der début US EP this week which sees her recent successful single ‘Nuclear Seasons’ with a new track ‘You’re The One’ and a couple of reMixes. It’s bee quite a journey for Charli these past few years, from her bubblegum beginning to to her more mature, intricately crafted sound she displays today (which I refuse to call GothPop *shakes head*).

‘You’re The One’ is absolutely beautiful. Aggressive Industrial rhythms and growling bass juxtapose with lush Vangelis-esque futuristic soundscape synths and, more than any of her tracks to date, ‘You’re The One’ shows of Charli’s voice to be a million times more versatile, and at times so much more warm and passionate, that I had previously thought. This is proper melancholic Pop, the kind rarely found outside of the ‘80’s, melancholic shot through this a streak of optimism, and we’re a bit hooked.

Charli XCX’s new single

Charli XCX

Out this weekend is the new single from London’s resident ElectroPop nutcase Charli XCX.

Having come a long way in the last few years Charli has really hones her sound, that is carved out a sound for herself. A lot darker now than she used to be, her new single ‘Nuclear Seasons’ is a moody and edge peice of ElectroPop backed by tribal percussion and buzzsaw synths while Charli wails about, in her own words “…about a sense of decay. Whether it be the decaying of love, the decaying of life or the decaying of a period of time. Its about being lost and frozen and surviving. Its about being on your own and feeling magic alive when you come through the other side.” Charli XCX’s transition from madcap bubble-gum to something deeper looks like the making of a seriously interesting artist. Check the singer here and head over to her website to download for the price of an email address.

Alex Metric & Charli XCX & Russ Chimes

Stop what you’re doing, there’s a new Russ Chimes reMix in town.

Saying “Russ Chimes can do no wrong” might be jinxing it, and his next production clould be shit and it would be our fault. But it’s not likely, ‘cos Russ Chimes can do no wrong. The man smashes it again with this new mix of Alex Metric & Charli XCX’s ‘End Of The World’ from Mr. Metric’s forthcoming ‘Open Your Eyes’ album. Russ seem to build and build on this tune, constantly adding layers to the killer riff that will be whipping dancefloors up into a frenzy this summer. Bringing it down briefly with a sweet piano hook and snatches of ElectroPop kook XCX’s vocal before dropping the listener right back into body moving inanity. To say Russ Chimes can move the crowd is a massive understatement.
