Masters Of The Radio’s début EP

masters of the radio

Cheshire SynthPop duo Masters Of The Radio are gearing up for the release of their début EP, ‘The Pleasure Age’, this week.

Featuring alongside tracks like ‘Easy Now’ and one of our favourites ‘The Last Feeling’, will be this track, ‘Close To You’. The new song is a moody slice of retro Electro with some Japan-esque vocals that I can see fitting in really well amongst their other tunes. ‘Close To You’ has an epic and cinematic quality to the slightly sombre ‘80’s inspired electronics which lend the track a nice feeling of drama.

Topless reMixed by Robots With Rayguns

topless

Topless are an ElectroPop duo from Holland who’s free ‘Topless’ EP is five tracks of pure retro Pop set firmly in the late ‘80’s and very early ‘90’s, complete with early House basslines and New Order-esque use of sampling. Add to this some insanely catchy songs and you have a very cool EP.

The lead track of the EP ‘Say You Love Me’ has been given the reMix treatment by LA ElectroPop dude Robots With Rayguns. Mr. Rayguns, Lucas Patrick Smith, takes the track further back in time a few years, to the early/mid ‘80’s, and seems to inject the tune with a little Electro-Soul from that period. He reels thins in from being frantic ElectroPop to being smooth SynthPop (yes, there is a difference, deal with it!) and in doing so give the track a bit more of a laid back summer vibe.

Here’s a new video for SynthPop act Northern Kind’s track ‘Daggers’.

This version of the track is from their limited edition ‘53 Degrees North’ EP. The video very much captures the Scandinavian electro feel.

DannielRadall’s new single

DannielRadall

This week saw the release of our favourite Méxican retro SynthPopper DannielRadall new single.

‘To Make You Mine’ features Steffaloo and is another wonderful slice of Lo-Fi ElectroPop from Danniel, loaded with slick ‘80’s licks. Buzzing synths, roomy reverb and a cool summer vibe ooze from the speakers when you a slap this track on. Not following any retro-cool pack when it comes to making music, DannielRandall continues to carve out a unique little niece in ‘80’s inspired music.

In 1982 the Eurythmics were all about androgyny, world domination, cows and pretending to play music on a BBC Micro in a box with a rack EQ and a tiny TV on top.

More from Queen Of Hearts’ début EP

queen-of-hearts

Queen Of Hearts has been regal enough to let us have a listen to another track from her forthcoming début EP, ‘The Arrival EP’. This one is ‘Black Star’.

With a little help from Beatrice Hatherley (Kylie/Zoot Woman) and produced by Olly & James from Devil’s Gun ‘Black Star’ is a strange intoxicating beast. Powerful and ominous post-DubstepPop electronics that sees Liz sounding a little like Vicky Hesketh (both musically and vocally) in the verses, and a little like t.A.T.u in the chorus (complete with pitch shifted duet). I am actually really diggin’ the fact that not everything to come out of The Queen’s camp has been pure upbeat Pop of late, sure those singles will definitely be something to look forward to I think it’s these tunes, showing she has more than one string to her bow, that will stick with people. ‘Black Star’ is pretty cinematic too, if there was ever a QoH track I would want to see a really good video for it would be this.

VillA reMixes BeNi

beni

I’ve got to admit,  BeNi’s been off my radar a bit recently, after a string of awesome tunes he kinda’ lost me with recent singles. ‘It’s A Bubble’ was totally underwhelming and the whole viral campaign that went with it just an embarrassment. However, the internet reckons VillA’s reMix of his new tune ‘Someone just Like You’ is the mutts nuts, and whop am I to argue with the internet.

They are so right,  VillA injects the track with a robotic nervous energy creating some funky SynthPop that could easily sit an any number of classic mid-80’s compilation (as an extended 12” version of course). I suppose it’s time then to give BeNi’s album a chance, you can stream the whole thing here.
