[Audio] tEPr’s ‘Hypnotease’

tepr

tEPr has long been one of your favourite French producers. His solo work, his reMixes and his production chops as part of Yelle have always hit the right spot for us. The man has a new EP forthcoming, to be released on Yuksek’s Partyfine label, called Hypnotease. A six track affair from which tEPr has unleashed the title track for your listening pleasure.

Hypnotease is certainly hypnotic; it’s no taste though as is really delivers the goods. After years with Yelle it’s probably not right to compare this tune to older tEPr work, this track is more mellow; maybe even more mature. An undulating DiscoPop tune for the first three minutes of it’s life, warm and drifting on hazy synths and Tanguy Destable’s distant vocals, then just past the midway point the track explodes with a huge Inner City-esque Chicago hook and House beat. Intoxicating stuff.

[Audio] Grum’s ‘Builder’

grum

Early next month one of our favourite producers of the finest euphoric tunes, Mr. Grum, makes his début on the legendary Anjunabeats. This incoming EP is called Trine, a three track juggernaut of which our pick of the pack is Builder. Annie Mac premièred the track earlier this month and it kinda’ slipped on out ‘things to write about’ list; but seeing as how we don’t really give a toss about being ‘first’ to write about stuff and whatnot, here it is in all it’s hands-in-the-air glory.

Grum pours all of his big-room talents into this one. A crisp and clean progressive track that owes much to the man’s love of 90s euphoric tunes but also brings a contemporary UK neo-Deep House sound. The track’s a nice mix of machine grooves with a human, soulful sheen. As the robotic bassline leads to ever onward toward the breakdown it’s easy to see Builder going down a storm in the early hours.

[Audio] Ben Browning’s ‘Friends Of Mine’

Ben Browning

Ben Browning, of Cut Copy fame, has unveiled the second single from his forthcoming début solo album, Turns. The full length record is due out next month and sees Browning drawing from a wide variety of influences to express his personal vision. This new single, Friends Of Mine, follows the well received Make It Easy from earlier this month and loads on some blissed out summery Disco. Check it out.

Ben takes it easy with this one; a carefree nostalgia-fest that is a joy to listen to. Taking those breezy beach Disco sounds so often associated with L.A. and mixing it us with a little Cut Copy-esque Aussie Indie-ElectroPop Friends Of Mine treats the listener to a skippy symphony of warm bass, twinkling leads and Ben’s contented vocal over a steady Disco groove. Like a cool drink on a warm day, this is summer comfort at it’s finest.

[Audio] Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’…again.

Goldroom

Oh I don’t know what’s going on anymore. The man Goldroom’s Embrace, with Ariela Jacobs on vocals was one of our top tracks of 2013, and now the track is back, Jack. This time around Embrace features the vocals of original co-songwriter George Maple, and is the lead track on Goldroom’s freshly released new EP; It’s Like You Never Went Away (which has also got the Chela featuring stunner Fifteen on again). As we’re just pulling into Summer (fingers crossed!) it seems like the prefect time to dust off the old Embrace and give it another spin.

Like a fine wine Embrace seems to have got better with age. And more alcoholic; in the sense that everything feels like it’s been honed and refined and made, for want of a better word, richer. The new production sheen and slight tweak of arrangement seem to make the track more focused with Maples vocals a hair’s breadth more soulful. Other than that it’s nice to have a track that ruled our summer two years ago return to the top of the playlist pile.

[Audio] Tensnake’s ‘The Walk’

tensnake

We’re massive fans of both German retro House overlord Tensnake and his record label True Romance. Shocking revelation; we know! We eagerly look forward to releases from both, and when they are together it’s something switch on your ‘email me when it’s released’ notification on Juno for so you can get that vinyl ASAP. The new release will be Keep On Talking, which we have already been grooving to for a bit; back with this new tune, premièred at Mixmag, titled The Walk.

The Walk rumbles along on a propulsive bassline after the introduction of meticulously synthesized drums and Balearic percussion. This one is a pure joyous House tune, with no pretentions other that making the crowd loose themselves on the dancefloor. Snappy snares and irresistible retro-hooks offer up a megaton slab of classic House with a pitch perfect build. Timeless and unshakably funky; The Walk feels like a solid, workhorse, crate filler.

[Audio] Auxiliary Tha Masterfader’s ‘Feel About U’

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new original tune from Dutch Disco wizard Auxiliary Tha Masterfader, a string of awesome reMixes recently, sure, but originals? It’s been a while. Now the man has hooked up with Mason’s record label, Animal Language, to release his storming new single. It’s called Feel About U, and it’s out this week. Hold tight for the bouncy synth groove.

Aux wastes no time  hitting us up with a powerfully infectious walking bassline. Simple and effective, the bass worms it’s way into your head, setting up residence while Feel About U unleashes some massive, soulful vocal samples and lush vintage synths. Aux switches up between thick retro chords and tight leads, creating a multi-layers nostalgia fest. There’s nothing frantic about this one, a mid-tempo, laid-back, Disco burner perfect for chilling to on hot summer evenings.

[Audio] Louis La Roché reMixes Public Service Broadcasting’s ‘Go!’

public-service-broadcasting

Released last week was the new single from one of our favourite live acts (even if we’re slightly less keen on record) around Public Service Broadcasting. Taken from their recently released The Race For Space album the single, Go!, features this stormingly retro reMix from the Disco master Louis La Roché. Eschewing his usual, more vintage Disco, flavour for some high-octane Italo and SynthWave; Louis takes us on frantic, funky ride. Strap in.

Rapid fire, nostalgic, goodness; La Roché’s reMix of Go! never let’s put with it’s intertwining arpeggios, rocking leads and a relentless 80s beat. Taking many cues from both mid 80s elector and the early SynthWave scene Louis takes the best of both worlds and mixes them up into an emotional, speedy, tune that is produced to perfection.

[Audio] Kim Ann Foxman reMixes her own ‘Creature’

kim ann foxman

Creature was, then Hercules And Love Affair alumni, Kim Ann Foxman’s début release back in 2010. Released alongside fellow H&LA’er Andy Butler, the track is now getting it’s first vinyl release at the third release on Kim’s own new imprint, Firehouse Recordings. Back with a host of new reMixes, the Creature vinyl also features this updated mix of the tune from Kim herself. Prepare yourself of some deep Acid vibes.

Like the original, Kim’s new reMix is an ode to classic House music, in this case moody, dimly lit, Chicago warehouse vibes. An enthralling seven minutes of undulating synths and burbling basslines, this reMix of Creature is a hypnotic and intoxicating affair, shifting and evolving over it’s length, from dark and growling Acid House to soulful and haunting electronica. A totally enchanting track set to a shuffling House beat.

[Audio] GotSome reMix Róisín Murphy’s ‘Exploitation’

roisin-murphy

Exploitation, the first single from Hairless Toys, the about–to-be released new album from Avant-DiscoPop queen Róisín Murphy has been given the bass heavy floorfiller treatment from Bristol’s finest GotSome. The reMix rubs impressive shoulders with work from the likes of DJ Sneak and Falco Benz on the single and more than makes it’s mark by drawing you into it’s hypnotic groove. Check it out below.

Pulsating robo-bass and a jump up beat drive this juggernaut of a track. Murphy’s vocals are the prefect counter for this throbbing and woozy House tune; her soft tones curling across the high-octane machine groove like smoke. GotSome serve up a symphony of tough rhythms, cowbell and loose keys; punctuated by those demonic synth growls. Strobe light stuff, GotSome are on a roll.
