Goin’ Old School: Harold Faltermeyer – Axel F

1984 Harold Faltermeyer, the only ‘Axel F’. ‘Axel F’ is an amazing song but every single cover of this track has been shit. If you mention that fucking frog I will hunt you down and kill you.

M83 & Christian Strobe

m83

We haven’t been able to stop playing M83’s new tune, and taster of his forthcoming album, all week. Now, thanks to Christian Strobe, fresh from his new single release, we can listen to it in new exciting ways.

Just as 80’s as the original but turning the synths up to 11, for example replacing the sax solo with a soaring synth lead, this reMix strips out the Indie elements of the original and morphs it into pure ElectroPop. The lead really is the counterpoint of the track, when it kick in, epicness ensues.

M83 – Midnight City (Christian Strobe reMix)

Christian Strobe’s ‘Midnight Call’ single is out now on 12” and drops on the 22nd July digitally.

‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’, M82’s forthcoming album, is released 18th October.

The Leadings new video

The Leadings are a Spanish House/ElectroPop act.

Here’s the suitably Spanish video for their track ‘Feel’ from their forthcoming new album. Sometimes people obviously having more fun than me makes me want to reach for a machine gun, the song is really nice though, you should listen.

The Leadings’ new album is out soon on Tsunami.

:kinema: reMix My Tiger, My Timing

My Tiger, My Timing

Our favourite Brightonian soulful Electro DiscoPoppers :kinema: have reMixed My Tiger, My Timing’s latest single ‘Endless Summer’.

An antidote to rainy grey holidays the track is pure summer nostalgia and :kinema: take that feeling to the next level with their typically smooth sound. The chilled Yacht vibe is prefect for a song about summer good times. The Balearic piano, the Disco strings, the late 80’s electronic R&B bass, it all makes for the perfect combination. the only question is when are we going to get an album from :kinema:?

D.Gookin

d.gookin

I’m not sure what to make of New Haven electronic producer D.Gookin. I’ve been grooving to his new tune ‘Unbraid the Knot’ all morning, but it’s a confusing beast.

D.Gookin, A.K.A. Mike Birnbaum seems to have taken a chaotic, breaks inspired experimental dance track and crammed it into the box of a sweet melodic Electro Soul tune, and the end result really works. The big noisy beats and distorted percussion are off set by smooth vocoding and a catchy riff. ‘Unbraid The Knot’ has a raw sound, this just tends to add to it’s charm. D.Gookin reportedly has an intense live show, this I can believe.

Kimbra & G.L.O.V.E.S.

kimbra

Kimbra is really pushing the release of her infection new single ‘Cameo Lover’ with another storming reMix.

This time Australian uber-producer G.L.O.V.E.S. takes the reins. I love seeing what people do with this track, the original has got a quirky 60’s vibe to it and when that vocal rhythm slides of some slick Nu-Disco, as it does here, it make for quite a unique sound. Like Shook’s reMix this track has it’s own take on the tune, it’s a sparkly Disco track that makes the right decision in keeping Kimbra’s vocal intact and it perfect for good times with friends.

New Queen Of Hearts track, produced by Monarchy.

queenofhearts

If you keep an eye on Queen Of Hearts’ Twitter (which sounds a bit like stalking when you say it outloud?) you’ll know she recently tweeted about being in the studio with ElectroPop geniuses Monarchy. An exciting prospect I’m sure you’ll agree. Well, here’s the result.

I think vocally ‘Perfect Mistake’ is the most intimate performance we’ve heard from QoH so far, the subtleties in her vocals make the track feel more personal. It’s a pretty classic SynthPop tune, in it’s content and arrangement, but given a contemporary sheen by the Queen and Monarchy resulting in a perfect meeting of the retro and the new. And this is just a demo! I can see Queen Of hearts gathering momentum and things picking up the pace very soon. There are rumors TOTP is coming back, might be just in time!

Goin’ Old School: Giorgio Moroder – From Here To Eternity

Giorgio Moroder’s ‘From Here To Eternity’ was 1977!!! Mr. Moroder had a hand in every single electronic record ever made, that’s a science fact!

Franklin’s new tune

franklin

This is Franklin’s new track, of which we know very little about.

It’s taken from his Wool Recordings album ‘Artificial light’, due out later this year, and shows Franklin at him most intimate and electronic. This chilled piece is stripped down to the core of one man and his synthesizers and is strangely hypnotic. That analog bassline is so enveloping.

Franklin’s album is due out in October this year.

Aimes

aimes

Aimes is the alter-ego of Brooklyn producer Aman Ellis who is about to release the first single from his forthcoming album, ‘Your Floor Is Now a Tree’.

‘Every Time When I see You’ is classy, analog, vocal DiscoPop, with a strong 80’s feel. The bassline come straight from early 80’s Pop and provides the backbone for a whole range of influences to play over. Disco guitar riffs, Tropical percussion, hints of Acid and lush Nu-Disco synths that maybe shouldn’t always work together here intertwine naturally with the 80’s style vocals. The B-side ‘Is A Good Friend?’ is a slow burner sample heavy Disco Jam with a squelchy summer bassline and a relaxed groove. Complex and multi-layered, ‘Is A Good Friend?’ is an early hours tune for the come down.
