[Audio] Dato’s ‘Give It Up’

Dato

Danish Nu-Disco ElectroPop duo Dato have just released their latest offering, the Give It Up EP. It’s been a while since we featured these guys on electronic rumors, the sometime Mullet Records releasers have steadily been churning out some of the funkiest emotional sound coming out of Scandinavia in the past few years, and this new three track release is no exception.

The EP’s lead, and title, track, is a silky smooth three and a half minutes of Disco tinged ElectroPop brilliance. Dato, skilfully, combine slick, subtly, Disco licks with chatty ElectroPop synths and the dreamiest of sax solos, and rolls them all up into a late night summer jam that oozes cool. With an infectious vocal and an irresistible groove this one is prime for urban dancefloors, the sound will drift across the city. Elsewhere on the EP you’ll fine the upbeat DiscoPop of Into The Fire and If We Ever, a Tropical slice of poolside sounds. If you need something to chill to this summer, day or night, then this EP is highly recommended.

Dato’s new tracks

It’s been a while since we featured Denmark’s Dato, in the inbetween time the duo have got funkier as the Disco influence on their ElectroPop sound has become more prominent.

Their latest productions show a definite one-ness with the funk, whereas their earlier tracks were more ElectroPop based. ‘Hard To Find’ is reminiscant of early Dirty Vegas with haunting vocals over a strong House groove. ‘My Life Is Perfect Now’ sees them joined, once again, by Jannie Linnebæk for a slab bass and retro synth workout that is bordering on Dreamwave. Mixing up their chilled Danish ElectroPop with a Nu-Disco vibe a makes for a really interesting laid back take on both sounds.

Dato; ‘How Many Times?’

Dato

Danish duo Dato dabble with both ElectroPop and Electro-House with interesting effects.

A while back we first introduced you to their track with Danny Andersen, ‘I Don’t Wanna’’ which we quite liked, it was a pretty energetic dancey ElectroPop track with some nice old school sounds. Now the guys are gearing up for the release of their first album next month and have dropped another track on us to wet out appetites. Featuring the vocals of Jannie Linnebæk, ‘How Many Times?’ is slightly more Housey but still wears it’s SynthPop influences in it’s sleeve. It’s a relaxed, dancey piece of electronic pop that makes really subtle use of a vocoder to create a smooth vocal effect.

Dato

I was turned onto Dato by Disco Demons yesterday. This Danish two-piece make make modern SynthPop with a decidedly old school flavour (particularly with their basslines!) that will be right up the alley of many of our readers.

The guys have been together since 2007 paying “respect to the keyboards of the past and the ideas of the future” and this track, ‘I Don’t Wanna’’ in particular is a sweet, infections, Electro floorfiller:
