[Audio] The Penelopes reMix Lana Del Ray’s ‘Ultraviolence’

Lana Del Ray

We’re generally not massive fans of Lana Del Ray reMixes, some things can become a bit tedious, but our interest was piqued when we heard that Lana herself has requested London based French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes to delver a reMix for her forthcoming new single Ultraviolence, the title track of her latest LP. In fine form on this one, The Penelopes hit the ground running with a tune that is relentless in it’s infectiousness.

Fun and funky, The Penelopes’ reMix lifts the track from Pop gloom to a euphoric dancefloor place. Underpinned by a drivingly optimistic synth bass, the track effortlessly flows between majestic Pop, Chicago House and slinky Nu-Disco, trading on an uplifting piano hook and a subtle horn section. Del Ray’s voice, which can grate at times, sound luscious and hazy here, a smokey chanteuse amidst a sea of punchy Disco sounds. The Penelopes are on a roll right now and this reMix (which, let’s face it; is pretty high profile) should see them gaining more of the mainstream recognition they so much deserve.
