So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware that the original Sugarbabes, Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan, have reformed and are about to make a triumphant comeback to Pop to show the revolving door line-up of whoever is calling themselves Sugarbabes these days how it’s done. Flatline is their forthcoming début single under their new moniker Mutya Keisha Siobhan. It’s already making waves by itself, now added to the mix is this reworking by 2007 New Rave heroes Klaxons, who are apparently still together. Who knew?
They do a sterling job on the track, turning an epic slice of SynthPopRock into a deep deep House oddessy. The track is quite surprising, not knowing what to expect from a Klaxons 2013 track, but it seems they’ve got on board with the current trend for early 90s House sounds and added a little of their own brand of noisy electronics. House beats and low subby basses and an array of razor sharp synth hooks and filtered chords. The trio’s vocals sound perfectly at home amongst this involved clubland excursion, somewhat more comfortable than the original you might say.
