Depeche Mode reMixed by Røyksopp

I’m a massive Depeche Mode fan but have always been disappointed by their reMixes, or rather their choice of reMixers. From about 1990 onward they just seemed to pick self-indulgent Techno artists who wouldn’t know a tune if it hit them in the face. But after the blisteringly good ‘Personal Jesus 2011’, especially the Alex Metric reMix, I am very excited about the forthcoming ‘reMixes 2: 81-11’ album.

Just looking at the line-up of talent is like a breath of fresh air as far as Depeche Mode reMixes are concerned. We have the likes of M83, Eric Prydz, Jacques Lu Cont, Digitalism, UNKLE, Karlsson & Winnberg (Bloodshy and Avant from Miike Snow) and this track from Røyksopp.

The Norwegian duo have chosen to rework ‘Puppets’, from 1981’s ‘Speak & Spell’ and really have made it their own. It’s got that Røyksopp, cute SynthPop, sound which seems to fit the original’s vocals more than the original track, if that’s possible. If this, alongside the Personal Jesus 2011 tracks, is the standard of reMixes on the album than we are in for a treat indeed!

‘reMixes 2: 81-11’ is released 6th June on MuteReprise.

‘Røyksopp’s Adventures In Barbieland’

Røyksopp’s short film, ‘Røyksopp’s Adventures In Barbieland’, created to accompany their new instrumental album ‘Senior’ (the follow up/sister album to last years ‘Junior’) is now available to watch in it’s entirety.

Here is what Røyksopp’s Svein had to say about it: “We had a vision, and in this vision we saw ourselves as a sleeping hobo and an old man respectively. The following is a vivid depiction of some of the events that occurred during an intended stay in Barbieland. And remember,  It’s a true story….”

It’s odd, Røyksopp odd, and features 5 tracks from the forthcoming ‘Senior’.

‘Senior’ is expected to drop 13th September on Wall Of Sound

Røyksopp grow old

Røyksopp are gearing up to release the flip side of last years utterly amazing ‘Junior’ album.

‘Junior’ not only made our top 20 albums but also had an inclusion in our top 20 songs of 2009 so if the duo are busting out the synths once more that cam only be good news!

Slated to be more instrumental, more freeform (maybe akin to their earlier works) than ‘Junior’, the new album, titles ‘Senior’ was conceived with each individual track being just one part of the whole.

In Røyksopp’s own words: “The two albums (‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Røyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimful with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experience…”.  Senior’ is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck.”

Check the amusing trailer, there is nothing like a fake beard!

‘Senior’ is expected to drop 13th September

Røyksopp & Robyn’s Robot Released

Royksopp3

I had absolutely no doubt that Røyksopp and Robyn’s ‘The girl And The Robot’ would be the next single off their fantastic album ‘Junior’.

It’s easily one of my favourite tracks of this year so far, everything an ElectroPop track should be. ‘Cos it’s so good we have a treat for you here in the shape of four of the reMixes from the forthcoming single. Kris Menace, Joakim, Château Marmont & Ocelot all bring various strains of Nu-Disco and Electro to their versions, each one a gem in it’s own right.

Røyksopp (Feat. Robyn) performance video!

Apparently Røyksopp haven’t performed on TV for seven years! Well, what better way to make a comeback is to perform “The Girl And The Robot” from their latest album ‘Junior’ on Swedish TV and actually bring Robyn along to do the vocals!

“The Girl And The Robot” is still one of my favourite tracks of the moment, it’s an almost perfect slice of ElectroPop. Do I smell a second single?

‘Junior’ is out now on Wall Of Sound.

Robyn rocks with Røyksopp

Well, if I was looking forward to the new Røyksopp album, Junior, before, I am seriously exited about it now I’ve heard ‘The Girl And The Robot’ featuring, Modular signed, Swedish ElectroPop nutcase Robyn.

Possibly the most Pop track  have ever done, certainly since ‘Remind Me’, I could really see this being a single. There’s not much to say except that this song is brilliant!

Gotta’ be in the running for one of the tunes of the year.

Robyn is just one af many names associated with the album. Other contributions are rumoured to be coming from the likes of Lykke Li and The Knife.

‘Junior’ is out on March 23rd on Wall Of Sound.

A couple of new videos

Busy day today, you you can entertain yourselves with two new videos that have made their début this week.

First up is the poptastic clip for Frankmusik‘s forthcoming single ‘Better Off As Two’.

Also, we have the space invader fuelled video for Røyksopp‘s now on ‘Happy Up Here’. Directed by Reuben Sutherland, this is, like most of Røyksopp’s videos, something special.

Normal service will resume.

Røyksopp Vs. Boys Noize

I’m sure everyone is eagerly awaiting Røyksopp‘s new album. What better, to tide you over, than ElectroPop’s most chilled noodlers having their latest single ravaged by ElectroHouse beasts Boys Noize and turned into an Acid monster!

‘Happy Up Here’, that’s the name of the first single from Røyksopp forthcoming album. The album, according to rumours, will feature contributions from the likes of Lykke Li and The Knife.

Here’s the title track of the single:

I like it, it’s got that ‘Eple’ vibe. Røyksopp always sound like “summer in Camden” to me. I might buy the album when it comes out in March but not listen to it for a few months, ’til the sun comes out.

But you lot should buy stuff now!
