Lifelike & Popular Computer

Lifelike

Hold tight for some seriously French French Touch and one of the scenes pioneers Lifelike teams up with one of our favourite producers Popular Computer to drop a massive slab of dancefloor goodness. Like an invasion of French funky robots the just released new track, ‘Getting High’ hot you with a militaristic groove tempered with smooth synths.

The relentless marching of the staccato bassline and vocoded chants is like in irresistible call to dance. A mantra of synths and robots that wraps you up in it’s hypnotic groove. ON top of this you can head Popular Computer’s input in the bright, complex melodies, like a musical machine with a hundred moving parts. It’s actually really interesting to hear the meeting of these two producers distinct styles, a meeting that works really well, Lifelike knows his groove and riffs like no-other, and PC can layer thick retro synths and intricate lead lines. A good mix, check it out:

Johan Agebjörn & Le Prix reMix Lindbergh Palace

Lindbergh Palace

Wow, we haven’t featured Brooklyn based ElectroPoppers Lindbergh Palace! Over a year in-fact, and coincidentally, the last time we wrote about the was about Fear of Tigers reMix of their track ‘Day’s Don’t Fade’, that was November 2010! That track is finally seeing release as part of the ‘Day’s Don’t Fade’ single alongside this storming mix from Sweden’s top-dogs Johan Agebjörn and Le Prix.

Johan and Le Prix’s version of the track is massive, big room, undulating mix. the duo lays thick that wonderful mixture of post-Italo groove, retro SynthWave and Sweden’s knack for perfect ElectroPop all rolled into one huge tune. Lush is the best word to describe this track, roomy, cosmic synths fill the track on top of the relentless Italo bassline, up[lifting the introspective SynthPop of the original into a fully fledged Dance classic. This is a reMix in return for Lindbergh Palace’s version of Johan Agebjörn & Le Prix’s ‘Watch The World Go By’, we’re really not sure who got the better end of the deal, maybe everyone’s a winner, especially us!

Emeron & Fox’s début single

Emeron & Fox

‘Dopecity’ is the forthcoming new, and début, single from the awesome Emeron & Fox. Released via Silhouette Music later in the month. We’ve been keeping an eye on these guys for the last few months even since they came onto our radar so we definitely agree that it’s about time for this Brooklyn based duo to start properly releasing stuff and I can’t think of a better partnership that with Silhouette.

‘So what can we expect from ‘Dopecity’? It’s a pretty classic SynthPop track with slight Nu-Disco overtones. Based in bass, the track revolves around it’s undulating and buzzing bassline. Layered on top are some rich retro synths and some haunting female vocals that despite being layered and quite ethereal end up being surprisingly catchy. The track is a nice mix of retro and contemporary and a nice premiere single. reMixes come from The Legendary 1970 Orchestra, L’Equipe Du Son & Follow Me. L’Equipe Du Son’s take on the track  is a deep Disco groove with some nice House topping. Rocking the ring modulator L’Equipe Du Son created a humming synthetic Disco tune with slowly moves along it’s hypnotic vibe to a multi-layered finale. Follow Me’s mix is a sweet, light, SynthWave track that is uplifting and infectious. Full of Funk and sweeping retro synths I think this version is the standout for us.

Drop Out Orchestra’s ‘It Will Never Be The Same Again’ single

drop-out-orchestra

Originally heard on Aeroplane’s, still on rotation, ‘In Flight Entertainment’ compilation, Sweedish Disco duo Drop Out Orchestra’s ‘It Will Never Be The Same Again’ finally sees a single release this month with a reMix package on Eskimo Recordings.

‘It Will Never Be The Same Again’, as you will probably know by now, is nice rolling, quite jazzy, Disco number. Vocoder heavy and loaded with lush ‘70’s stings alongside bouncy synth work. It’s got quite a chilled vibe, like a relaxed Moroder, but with enough groove to rock the dancefloor. reMixes come correct from London Electro Disco duo Punks Jump Up and Gomma staple Moullinex. Punks Jump Up, bring out a little more of the dancefloor side of the track. Reminiscent of some of PJU’s older work it’s got a solid piano line, a pulsating bassline and a real House vibe to it. Moullinex wastes no time and gets straight on with his quirky Portuguese Cosmic Disco business. Space synths and a slight Tropical flavour make for a nice future retro Mediterranean flavour. Picking a hollow bass sound really accentuates the bass riff and makes for an addictive core to the track. Also including a B-Side, ‘Sun Machine’ featuring The Reverb Junkie, this is a hell of a smooth Disco package.

Final DJs début single

finaldjs

Well it’s finally here. Germany’s purveyors of the finest in dreamy SynthWave Final DJs release their début single for On The Fruit Records today. It’s been a long road tog et here which has seen this duo dropping originals and reMixes taking in everything from cinematic Dreamwave to bass funkin’ Nu-Disco. It seemed to take them a while to settle on a sound of their own, but with this premiere release they lay down their musical manifesto. You better listen up.

‘Gossip Country’ contains three originals and two reMixes, the title track is an epic excursion through synthetic melodies. Kicking off with a machine bassline with a Industrial feel, which isn’t as harsh as it sounds and makes for a nice hypnotic, undulating, backing for the lush, rich pads and some of Final DJs greatest solos and lead lines to date. There even a little ‘90’s House vibe in the mix too just to offset the overwhelming 80’s-ness of the leads. Final DJs have crafted some real goosebumps moments in ‘Gossip Country’ and, whilst keeping the SynthWave sound have taken it one step further and taken Outrun Electro one step further toward being accepted by the mainstream. Flipside number one, ‘Salt On Our Skin’ is more of a funkier affair, but in an funky Italo way rather than a Nu-Disco vein with it’s bouncy digital bass being impossible not to move to. Again these producer double act hit just the right note with their soaring synth work. The remaining B-Side, ‘A Long Way Home’ is a more traditional dance affair with a lot more of the 90’s vibes. reMixes come from Sebastian Scotch who drops a deep Housey Disco track and Justin Faust who reworks ‘Gossip Country’, adding a bit more of a syncopated groove and a classy Disco sheen. Faust keeps a lot  of what makes the track so good in place, just tweaking things here and there, making the song ready for prime time.

Rusty Egan’s Exclusive Mix For electronic rumors

Rusty Egan

Rusty Egan – Exclusive Mix For electronic rumors = We are so honoured to present to you this exclusive mixtape for electronic rumors by none other than the legend Rusty Egan. Rusty was, of course, the DJ for the notorious Blitz Club where he essentially introduced electronic music to the UK music scene. Playing the likes of Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra and the emerging British Futurist, pre-SynthPop, music amongst artists like Bowie, he helped create the New Romantic movement and subsequently SynthPop and ElectroPop in the UK and Europe. Which basically led to every single thing we write about on this site. Oh, and he was a founder member of Visage. Influential enough for you? Right here he’s put together a storming collection of tracks for us proving, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that three decades later he still has his finger on the pulse of electronic music.

Lightwaves reMixes St. Lucia

St. Lucia

With the recent flood of reMixes of New York Indie-ElectroPopper St. Lucia is a welcome light in the dark that comes from ex-Yes Giantess man Jan in his Lightwaves guise. Jan has been quietly pushing out some of the most stunning reMixes in the last year or and his work always makes up sit up and take notice. we’re always glad we do.

Lightwave’s take on St. Lucia’s ‘Closer Than This’ works the epic catchy chorus to it’s fullest and uses it to soar over the now familiar Lightwaves Big Room sound. It’s a party sound with a hint of the Balearic for pure summery vibe. Jan’s thick stabs and sparkling keys just make this such an uplifting tune. Like proper warm weather DancePop with a big club groove. Do you know what hot girls dance to? Well, I do…it’s this!

Adamski’s ‘I Like It ‘ EP

adamski

Adamski has had a long and illustrious career. Instrumental in bringing dance music to the Pop masses when he, along with his Ensoniq SQ80, brought digital synths into Acid House (I had an SQ80, used to spend ages trying to copy Adamski!) and gave the world Seal (movie soundtracks would never be the same again). That was back in ‘89, and he’s been recording off and on ever since, sometimes as Adamski, and in recent times as Adam Sky.

But it took our friend Jerry Bouthier’s Continental Records to get him to don the Adamski hat once more for his forthcoming ‘I Like It’ EP, and it strangely sounds just like Adamski should! The lead track is a big Disco-tinged rave monster. It’s a definite London vibe, deep, hypnotic riffs and brain infecting synths work best on the capitals dark mysterious dancefloors. Places you can loose yourself in a track that takes in the last two decades of the producer’s career. ‘Wot Happened To You?’ is more straight-up Nu-Disco, still with a strong ‘90’s House vibe but more of a solid groove and slick Disco guitar snatches here and there. We first heard ATTAR!’s reMix of ‘I Like It’ on the last Aeroplane mixtape and it does an amazing job or reining the track in with a solid bassline and, naturally cowbell (the only thing the original track didn’t have). ATTAR!’s mix has such an epic lead line that’s pure euphoria inducing, there’s no way that this won;t kill on the dancefloor. Discotexas’ Mirror People smooth things out even more with their late ‘70’s Funk inspired Disco workout of ‘Wot Happened To You?’. moving you with the Disco and surprising you with some Rave keys. Holding the read is another mix of ‘Wot Happened To You?’ from French synth guru Blackjoy with a Disco sampling dark and moody Italo version that stands out from the pack in it’s pure difference to the rest, it’s an epic, cinematic track that is the perfect closer.
