[Video] Goin’ Old School: A-Ha

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Norwegian SynthPop legends A-Ha decided to call it quits this week, leaving a farewell message for their fans on their official website, so today let’s check out three of their best, starting with 1985’ The Sun Always Shines On TV.

One of the best Bond themes ever recorded, The Living Daylights from 1987.

And from 1986, ease yourself out with Hunting High And Low.

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Let’s kick off with what is probably Nitzer Ebb’s most iconic track, 1987’s Let Your Body Learn.

And from 1983, Experimental Art-Pop sampling pioneers The Art Of Noise with Beat Box.

I don;t know why we haven;t featured A-Ha’s biggest hit, Take On Me from 1984, but here it is.

Goin’ Old School: A-Ha, Duran Duran & Sheena Easton

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

A-Ha with ‘The Living Daylights’ from 1987. Oh no, there’s no theme here…

From 10985, Duran Duran’s ‘A View To A Kill’. OK, maybe there is a theme going on…

In 1981, just coming out of the ‘70’s, Sheena Easton with ‘For Your Eyes Only’. Yeah, can;t really get away from the theme now.

A-Ha’s ‘The Blue Sky’ reMixed by DannielRadall

We featured DannielRadall and her latest EP of 80’s ElectroPop inspired Chillwave last week, and as thanks Danniel has sent on over her reMix of A-Ha’s ‘The Blue Sky’, from 1985’s hit packed ‘Hunting High And Low’ album.

Here she tackles A-Ha with the same approach she has to her own music. The song shifts from bouncy, crisp, 80’s Pop to reverb drenched Chillwave with funk. With samples from the original expertly manipulated into new grooves, ‘The Blue Sky’ is reinvented for 2011.

DannielRadall’s new EP can be picked up on her Bandcamp page. A-Ha’s ‘Hunting High And Low’ can be picked up, well, everywhere!

The Twelves take on A-Ha

A-Ha

As part of a recent Norwegian promotion by Chrysler a few artists reMixed A-ha’s absolute classic ‘Take On Me’, including Brazil’s Nu-Disco demons The Twelves.

The Twelves have previously worked their reMix magic on the likes of New Young Pony Club, Groove Armada, Black Kids and, recently, La Roux.

This reMix keeps the pop structure of the original but injects it with some Electro, Disco magic.
